dear friends, family, fans, fellow folks, friends, friends, and more friends,
i’m grateful you’re here.
thank you for being who you are.
today, i’d like to share about my friend kenny deforest who died in a bike accident recently. he was a great human and a hilarious comedian and i’m really sad that we don’t get to see him in this life anymore. i’m so grateful i got to know him, and while there are certainly people who were closer to him than i was, like my friend myka fox said, “If it seems like everyone is talking about Kenny like he was their best friend, it’s because that’s how he made people feel. You were uniquely kind and funny and warm, we’ll miss you ♥️”
A) is for A practice:
a few years ago, i started a practice of texting friends for “no reason.”
if i was in line at the DMV or had a layover at the airport or just had a few minutes anywhere anytime, instead of scrolling mindlessly through social media, i started scrolling mindFULLY through my contacts and texts to see who i hadn’t talked to recently.
i would text something like “this is a friendship text because you’re my friend and i love you.”
when i first started doing this, one friend wrote back something like “why are you doing this?” and i don’t remember what i said.
“no reason” maybe? now, i think i would just say “reason.” (though then they might say “why did you say THAT?” but then i could refer them to this post here.)
truly, i’m glad that i have this practice now. because we never know how long we or anyone will live, so i’m grateful to connect with fellow beloved humans any time i can. i love you and thank you for being here. why? REASON.
B) is for Being seen:
looking back through my text history with kenny, i found a fun exchange where i had said “loving friend text! kenny edition!” and he had written back “loving friend reply! myq edyshyn!” which made me feel very seen. or very syyn.
C) is for Condolences:
another kenny exchange happend a couple years ago, after my step-sister died and i shared about that publicly. he wrote this:
”Sorry to hear about your sister.
She sounds like a beautiful soul
and I’m sure she was
because she liked your soul
which Is beautiful”
i like HIS soul. it is a BEAUTIFUL light. flame recognize flame.
and that’s all for today! thank you for receiving. plus some questions for you:
1) how are you doing? how is your heart? what’s new and good?
2) do you know kenny’s work? here is his latest comedy special.
3) do you message loved ones when there’s “no reason” to?
4) do you have any memories of loved ones you’d like to share?
5) how are you doing NOW?
