infinite love-wolves (and other wolf-related jokes)
also there's a pig or two in here as well! but not in the way that wolves and pigs are often connected!
dear friends, family, fans, fellow folks, friends again, and more friends,
i’m grateful that you’re here.
thank you for being who you are.
and now, for some silly jokes about wolves.
A) working aard or aardly working?:
an aardwolf is a thing.
a wolf is a thing.
an aardvark is a thing.
a vark is NOT a thing.
WHAT THE VARK!
okay, so i looked it up and according to vocabulary.com, “The word aardvark comes from Afrikaans Dutch, literally meaning ‘earth-pig,’ a combination of aard, ‘earth,’ and vark, ‘pig.’” so a vark IS a thing. and the thing that it is, is a pig. how on aard did i not know that until now?
also, pretty weird that it means “earth-pig,” because most of the pigs that i’ve ever known about are ALSO earth pigs. except for the “pigs in space” on the muppets (though i believe that even though they are IN space, those pigs are still FROM earth).
PS working on a new children’s story called “the three little varks.” coming soon!
B) aaaaaaooowwwwooooooooo doin’?
“inside of each of us, there are two wolves…”
“oh actually i’m vegan so i don’t eat wolves”
“it’s a metaphor”
“okay so how about, inside each of us there are two metaphorical plant-based wolf substitutes”
“my angry wolf is winning”
just in case you’ve never heard the story that i’m referencing here, there is an indigenous legend (according to wikipedia, a legend of unknown exact origin, but usually associated with the Cherokee) wherein a grandparent tells a grandchild of the two wolves that battle within each of us, one representing fear and anger and darkness and all manner of challenging emotions, the other representing love and kindness and compassion and all things good. the child asks “which one wins?” and the answer is given, “whichever one you feed.”
i hope you feed your loving wolves (can’t spell “wolves” without “love”!) and also maybe feed the other wolves and help them learn to be less angry and more loving, til eventually there are infinite love-wolves inside us all. (sounds better to me than starving those other wolves. maybe that’s why they’re so angry, because folks are trying not to feed them!)
C) weird wolves:
"we're wolves"
-- werewolves
this one is self-explanatory (he explains).
okay i’ll self-explain it further! “we’re wolves” and “werewolves” are made of the exact same letters in the exact same order and i think it’s fun because “we’re wolves” MIGHT be something that werewolves would say, particularly if someone asked them “are you humans only or is there some other animal that you ALSO are, and if so, which animal?”
and that’s all the wolf silliness (and silly wolfiness) for today!
unless YOU have any to add? (here are some questions for YOU!)
1) how are you doing? how is your heart? what is new/good with you?
2) had you heard that legend before? how long ago, do you think?
3) did you know the etymology of “aardvark”? when did you learn that?
4) any additional thoughts on wolves or anything you’d like to share?
5) how are you doing NOW?
thank you for receiving!
as always, my upcoming tour dates are here! (more coming soon!)
and finally, may i share this final wolf-related piece of humor i came up with that my friend katie barbaro illustrated? i hope i may. because i do! (i hope you can recognize the wolf in the picture because it IS wearing sheep’s clothing.)
much love, all!
Is anyone counting?
