ready, set, goals!
happy new moment, all! a great time to think about setting goals for the future. OR goals for the present! maybe that's my goal for the future: to think more about setting goals for the PRESENT!
dear friends,
i’m grateful you’re here!
thank you for being here and you and now!
and now, for a segment that i’ll call Me Answering Questions That Other Comedians Ask!
THEIR QUESTION:
How do you go about setting goals? Does goal setting work for you? Do you like to use the New Year to start fresh?
MY ANSWER:
good questions!
short answers:
i don't know, i'm not sure, and not historically!
medium answer:
my first big goal (creatively) was to be a singer-songwriter.
the pursuit of that goal led me to discover that i loved standup, which in turn led me to set a new big goal of being a professional comedian.
and now i'm a professional comedian.
so, i guess the answer to "does goal setting work for you" is Yes.
long answer (this whole thing, including short & medium, is the long answer):
the reason i said "i don't know" as my answer to how i go about setting goals is, i believe, that right now the goals are just Here.
for example, i have an hour of comedy that i plan to bring to the edinburgh fringe festival next year, after which i want to record it as a new special/album.
that goal came about in part because the last/first time i went to edinburgh, i had a great time doing my Last hour of comedy that i recorded after going there.
and That goal came about... well, now that goal splits into multiple ones, i think.
