advice on how to be confident, which i tell you all IN CONFIDENCE!

i'm often all-in on confidence!

i am grateful to you and for you!
usually i use this space to share short jokes, poems, and other quick funs.
sometimes, i use it to share slightly longer pieces i’ve written, sometimes in response to questions other folks have asked me, like this question from an aspiring comedian on the subject of confidence.

THEIR QUESTION:

how do you get the confidence to put ur own material out there?

MY ANSWER:

the way that i do it might be different from the way that YOU do it. and i can only speak to my own process. which is technically what you asked, though i imagine you are also curious as to how YOU can do it.

something that you could start with is writing your own material. if you're already doing that, good work. good start. keep doing that. write as much as you can, and want to. write every day if possible. then go back and look at what you've written, and rewrite and edit and add and keep writing new things. write and write and write. and eventually, maybe you'll see that there are things that you have confidence in. and then you can use some of that confidence to put it out there.

one way to have confidence is to not care what people think. because if you want to get to a place where you are performing and having people respond positively, you have to go through times when people might not be that way immediately. in order to Get Good, you have to Be Bad. ¹
