Great column, Myq!

Regarding God’s name, Jews avoid saying God’s unpronounceable name by calling Him “Hashem (the Name)” while some Hindus believe we can reach God by continually chanting His name! As a HinJew, it’s a tough needle to thread, but I have learned what pretzel logic means…

Jiminy Cricket, this was a good one! They always are, but I especially loved the crickets as a comedian’s conscience for having told a joke in vain.

Words are spells, so spell them right! Or spell them well, anyway.

Really interesting writing about god. The best line for me (paraphrasing) was why should we worry what we call god when we have no idea what it's name is or how to pronounce it anyway since we aren't able to understand it's grandeur in any way. Really interesting take.

I just turned 60 today which is not really as special as some make it out to be. The day feels very much like most of the other days just more people saying hello than usually do.

Have not heard the helicopter joke before but it's a good one and it's annoying. When offered help in a crisis take it if it is okay to do so. Love the breakdown of the joke. I like to react to things humorously when possible but can't for the life of me remember jokes. I listen to at least 6 hours of stand-up tidbits on XM every week but don't remember any of the jokes within a day or so. It's frustrating when so many of my friends have books of jokes in their heads it seems and the ability to quote dialogue from movies with no errors.

No, the man never leaves where he is because he's testing god. He wants to be individually saved by the lord not one of his henchmen. (My choice of that term because who's the to say if the god he believes in is good.)

I'm doing well for an old man in this country at this specific juncture in time. I am scared shitless about this country I'm in and how I'm going to be after the major surgery I'll be undergoing in 10 days. Pretty personal but so are you posts. Which makes them very real and often very engaging. It's like you've made a new movie. Being Myq Kaplan and we get to be in your head the whole time. Though I'm sure there is more going on in there than you are letting us see.

Thanks for being a light in the darkness we are living through. And I live in Floriduh so even though there is sunlight it's still really dark.

Thank you for sharing all this, Ted!

Happy 60th birthday!

I like this sentence a lot:

"The day feels very much like most of the other days just more people saying hello than usually do."

Hello!

Your thoughts on birthdays are very much in line with the theme of my piece today.

Words mean what we agree they mean.

Birthdays (or any days) are as special as we make them.

Happy to share the helicopter joke with you!

Regarding the jokes that you listen to and enjoy and then don't remember later, a question: are you driving when you're listening?

If not, you could pause and write down ones you want to remember!

If you are, you could make an audio note on your phone or another device if you wish.

That's how I remember a lot of what I want to, by recording it either with my voice or writing/typing it.

Sometimes I'll email or text myself, and keep things I want to remember in folders that I can revisit when I want to.

Thank you for opening up.

I'm glad to receive.

I wish you the best with your surgery (let me know how it goes if you wish later!) and I wish our country and the world the best with what it's going through as well.

I like the concept of the Being Myq Kaplan movie!

Regarding "I'm sure there is more going on in there than you are letting us see," I'm sure there's more going on than my brain is letting ME see.

And of course, when you read 200 or 500 or 1000 words I've written, that's not the sum total of EVERYTHING going on in my brain (you're welcome!).

And also, I'm open to questions and happy to share anything you're interested in learning.

Ask away, as you wish!

And that's funny about Florida.

Your joke, more than the reality you're discussing.

Thank you again for your kind words and your time!

I appreciate you!
