I wonder how often people do get what they deserve? Occasionally, I suppose.
1) I am doing pretty well! Lunar New Year and a bad sleep night threw a real curve in the week, but life feels right back on the track I want it to be on now. Progress on the school novel stalled out a bit in terms of word count the last week, but I plotted out the second half and am back actually writing it again today.
2) There are people with virtuous qualities I respect and want to see rewarded, but I’d feed them all to the wolves for my children.
3) Total road sage, but the kind of lives in an isolated mountain top monastery away from society on account of we don’t have a car.
4) Literally just not being hungry. I believe hanger accounts for 90% of all fights. Sleep deprivation and lack of exercise take silver and bronze.
5) A little stressed about the school bus coming soon (I still have 50 minutes) but I ate a bowl of Grape Nuts as I wrote this and guess what? Feeling good. 👍🏻
1) i am glad to hear for the glad things, and have a question: in what way did Lunar New Year throw you a curve?
2) i hear you! and i'll try to avoid finding myself between your children and wolves if i can! who is one person with virtuous qualities you respect, if you'd like to share? one of the people you'd throw to the wolves LAST, if you will.
1) School was closed! On a Wednesday! Also made origami snakes (just paper straws, kids believe anything) and wrote wishes for the year at a diner, which was nice.
2) The examples who most readily come to mind for me are kids who are trying hard and maybe not being rewarded.
I also like Pete Buttigieg, but I know better than to put anyone on a pedestal by now. I mostly like that he seems self-evidently smarter than me, which is not something my ego usually acknowledges easily.
5) Getting the camel capitalization right is so important when it comes to conGRAPEulatioNUTS.
Curious about your answer for 2, although I feel like you have mentioned several people you admire in one respect or another. And even a couple jokes!
I've heard it said that it's better for someone to have NO statue of them and have people ask "why not" then to have YES statue of them and have people ask "why."
Some folks who I think are doing or have done great work that I enjoy and respect very much include:
Maria Bamford
Dan Savage
Sarah Silverman
Thich Nhat Hanh
Tig Notaro
Gary Gulman
Brene Brown
Sid Singh
Alok Vaid-Menon
Ursula K Le Guin
Lori Gottlieb and Guy Winch who host the Dear Therapists podcast
Jennifer Peepas who writes the Captain Awkward advice column
Philip Gallanes who writes the Social Q's advice column column
I am leaving a comment to say I love Gus’ comment and I love you 💜
thank you! i love YOU!
I hope Laurie Kilmartin one day gets to play in that quaint hamlet in the woods of Arden, DE, the venerable Arden Gild Hall.
I hope so too! She would be great for it!

Yes!
Very wise to avoid pedestal-putting!
